The phone isn’t even out yet, but South Korea’s LG Electronics is promising that the upcoming V20 will not only ship with Android Nougat out of the box, it’ll even be the first to have it. Bold claims indeed, but also a great way to steal some of the recently announced Samsung Note 7’s thunder. But will it be able to compete, given the lackluster response to their modular G5?
All we can do right now is speculate, as LG has been mum about the new phone’s specs. The V10, it’s predecessor, was focused on improved camera controls, a secondary always on display, and two front cameras with wide/narrow selfies. This year, all the company is willing to tell us is that it’ll have advanced multimedia capabilities.
The timing window though to pull off a Nougat release is exceedingly tight, as Google themself haven’t even released the final build or the Nexus phones that will no doubt carry them. What this might mean is that LG won’t have the extra time to tweak the UI into their skinned version. This is most probably a good thing, as a near stock LG would have probably even saved the G5.
For now though, we wait. In a bus. Where we typed this whole article on an LG G4.
