June 07 05:35 2016 Print This Article

It may be a little late, but our review of the Microsoft Lumia 950 is finally here. Powered by a relatively flagship-level Snapdragon 808, with a QuadHD display and running on the supposedly much more modern Windows 10 (Mobile) OS, this phone certainly does have the bullet-point chops to make any discerning smartphone consumer do a double take. But did the Redmond company pull it off? Check out our video review embedded above to find out, or check out the specs and other information below!

Pros:

  • Excellent Camera & stabilization
  • Background app syncing now on par with Android & iOS
  • Continuum feature might be useful for some users but needs extra hardware

Cons:

  • Uninspiring design
  • Overheats when shooting 4K or playing games
  • UI slower than Windows Phone 8.1, drops frames a lot
  • Lots of basic features still missing
  • Atrocious app support
  • Gaming performance isn’t as high as it should be

Given these drawbacks, its hard to understand why its asking for such a high price of PHP 28,990. You can get some amazing flagship phones from the iOS & Android camp for the same amount of money, take about the same amount of quality pictures, but have a much more stable OS, more apps to choose from, and have a lot more functionality. Its a step up from what older Windows Phone users have been experiencing for the past several years, but its nowhere near as good as the other ecosystems and in some cases, it’s gotten worse.

If you’re a smartphone user who only needs basic social media connectivity or your ecosystem revolves around a lot of Microsoft’s software products, owning a Lumia 950 may turn out alright. For everyone else, spend the money elsewhere.

If you don't need a lot of games, apps, or advanced functionality, the Lumia 950 and its Windows 10 Mobile OS makes for a decent, if unmemorable, phone with an excellent camera and Microsoft's trademark productivity features.
