Hello and welcome to this really long delayed review. The Cherry Mobile Omega HD 2.0 was released to the market sometime around May this year and we got our unit pretty early on. (We even talked about it on a #BigTimeShow episode here[2].) On paper everything about the new phone sounded like an amazing improvement over the Dual-Core capabilities of its predecessor[3]. Packing a new Quad-Core 1.2Ghz processor and Android 4.2 Jelly Bean with the rest of the specs borrowed the original’s excellent 12MP BSI Camera, 1GB RAM, 5.0” 1280×720 resolution IPS display with Dragon Trail glass, and retaining 100% of its original design, the “Oh My GaHD 2.0” seemed like the perfect sequel – but is it? The Cherry Mobile Omega HD 2.0 Gets 4 Out Of 5 Stars

 

Pros:

  • The same excellent design from the Omega HD 1.0
  • Class leading IPS display with Dragon Trail protection, moisture rejection
  • Splendid durability
  • Powerful performance that even newer phones can’t beat
  • Good battery life

Cons:

  • Huge downgrade in camera quality from original; one of the worst cameras we’ve reviewed this year
  • Back cover prone to minor squeaks
  • Weird lack of notification sounds

 

The Cherry Mobile Omega HD 2.0 is one of best designs we’ve ever seen come from a local manufacturer. Its build quality is top notch, the display gets awesome reactions from people, and its got just the right amount of processing power, RAM, battery, and screen resolution that it can potentially be the perfect phone in this price range. But the camera just destroys everything we’d have hoped for in this device – something we hadn’t expected because the original’s camera is the best we’ve seen this year. That said, for consumers who find themselves smitten by that gorgeous screen, class-leading design, and that overall combination of performance, battery life and build, they’re definitely going to be very happy with an OHD 2.0 – so long as they don’t start taking pictures.
