One of the most common issues consumers experience when buying locally branded phones (and some foreign) has definitely got to be the problem with headphone & headset compatibility – specifically when they’re the 3.5mm 4-pin type. The main issue here is that smartphones have adopted two different versions of the cable standard. Unfortunately, this means that consumers get really confused when they buy a new pair of headphones and some functions don’t work on their device – normally being the microphone and the button on the cable. (Also happens when they buy a new phone that isn’t compatible with an old headset.) There’s also a big issue where incompatible headsets will give off a warbling sound, or muffling the audio from the device. Thankfully you can get a cable adapter that will easily convert from one standard to the other and vice-versa. Hop on over the jump to check out the Fiio LU1 Smartphone Conversion Cable in action.
And that’s about it guys: a quick and easy little cable to make your headphones compatible with any phone out there available. Since 2013 is shaping up to be the year of locally branded phones, this will hopefully help you out in making your shiny new earphones working with your (also) shiny new phone.
Note: Most local brands we’ve tested were using the Nokia standard pinout.
Buy a Fiio LU1 from Lazada here.
Update: We bought the cable from Egghead Robinsons Galleria, but readers have mentioned that the cables can also be found in The Listening Room Megamall, AstroVision / AstroPlus, and an online TPC retailer here. Hope that helps!
