The Cherry Mobile Magnum HD, Orbit & Superion

We know you guys have been waiting for it, and it’s finally here: the Magnum HD pricedrop! Cherry Mobile, as part of their 2nd Year Anniversary celebration, is bringing down the prices for some of their Android devices. They’ll be giving these new reduced prices to the dual-SIM Orbit, the Magnum HD, and the tablet Superion. For now, it looks like the new prices will be PHP 9,999 for the Orbit and PHP 13,999 for the two others – down from their previous prices of PHP 13k, 16k and 17k respectively. This should be great news for those looking for a decent Android for a budget price, especially when you check out the Magnum HD’s specs.

Of course we’re familiar with the Orbit – it’s the Dual SIM/standby Android Froyo device who you might have heard before. We’ve already reviewed it here. It is now priced PHP 3k lower so if you’re still looking out for one, its now a sub-10k device.

The Magnum HD is a powerful 1Ghz processor-packing device with a 4.1” 800×480 screen. It is the fastest Android that Cherry Mobile makes and is a pretty good deal at PHP 13,999, down from its previous price of 15,999. It can also be upgraded to Android 2.3 Gingerbread, as the Cherry Mobile site has released the update recently.

Finally, we have the Superion Tablet. It is a Froyo tablet with a 7” 800×480 screen and 600Mhz processor. It used to be priced at PHP 16,999 – now reduced by 3k to PHP 13,999. This should be one of the most affordable Android tablets around, so if you’re stuck buying those off-brand Apad tablets, you should seriously consider this instead.

For us, we’d say the Magnum is the best deal of the lot. Its not everyday you can find a 1Ghz 4” device for under PHP 15k – and running Gingerbread at that. In fact, it actually sounds pretty enticing. This effectively brings the price of a 1Ghz “flagship” down to midrange competition and then promptly smokes the lot. That’s not to say that the Dual SIM Orbit or the Superion tablet isn’t getting attractive prices either. So if you’ve been on the fence until this point, we think it might be a good time to climb over.
