Cherry Mobile Cosmo
Well it took a while, but now the Cherry Mobile Cosmo is finally here. The budget Android device was poised to take the cheapest Google smartphone a couple of months ago, but it had been delayed until today. We initially saw the device on a flyer that was printed and distributed prematurely with two leaked devices, the Cherry Mobile Orbit Dual-SIM, Dual-standby device, and the Cherry Mobile Cosmo. What the Cosmo is said to bring to the table is an affordable HVGA Android 2.2. Froyo phone. So is it? Cherry Mobile’s Facebook page declares its price to be PHP 6,899 and available now.
At PHP 6,900, the Cherry Mobile Cosmo is one of the Philippine’s most affordable Android phones to date. It’s running Android 2.2 Froyo on a 3.2” 480×320 display, 600Mhz processor, 2MP Camera, FM radio, and the usual Android connectivity features. For the price, the display is an improvement over most budget Android phones with mere 320×240 displays and usually sized at 2.8". While the rest of the specs doesn’t inspire greatness, for the price of under 7 grand, this 600Mhz phone seems quite worth it.
While not introduced at the half-off price of the Cherry Mobile Orbit (imagine half off of PHP 7,000?), the Cosmo is a promising phone that could fit a budget that is tighter than the average smartphone buyer. Seems like if you hadn’t had the chance to get an Orbit and still have the money lying around, a Cosmo could just be your new phone.
Update: The Cherry Mobile Cosmo looks to be a rebranded Spice Mi-310.
