The LG Optimus 2X
Fans of dual-core phones rejoice! The first dual-core smartphone, the LG Optimus 2X[2] – revealed back on December 2010 and released February this year to select markets – is slated to arrive in the Philippines sometime this May. (Source: YugaTech[3]) If true, then this will be the first dual-core smartphone to arrive in the our local market and will hopefully usher in the era of dual-core powered devices.
The Android 2.2 Froyo smartphone sports a 4" 800×480 TFT capacitive display underneath Gorilla Glass, dual-core 1Ghz Processor, and an 8MP camera + LED flash with 1080p video capabilities. LG has also mentioned that the Optimus 2X is in line to be upgraded to Android 2.3 Gingerbread so it will be able to run the latest version of the Google OS soon enough.
There was no quoted price for the unit but it should be safe to assume that top-end phones like these, especially the new dual-core platform smartphones, will come at a premium. As for performance, early reports say that the two CPU cores do a great job of accelerating certain specific functions – like game frame rates and mathematical calculations – but to be sure, we’d rather wait to see it for ourselves.
If you’re itching to upgrade your phone and be the first guy/gal on the block to say you’ve got two cores on your phone, then you’ll have your chance come this May.
